Spouse: First wife, Charlsey -we met in Santa
Monica, California in 1956. We were married later on that
year. She worked as an X-ray Tech at Santa Monica
Hospital. We had two wonderful children, but we were
divorced 1985. I remarried Betty Berry in 1996. She was
the chairperson of the Art Dept at Ouachita Baptist
University in Arkadelphia. Her mother introduced us.
Parents: Paul L. and Margaret
Richardson -My father was the Manager of Weill’s Department
Store in Bunkie. My mother was a homemaker and artist.
Children: 2 Thomas and Julie, Grandchildren 2,
Great grandchildren 2
Hobbies: Coin collecting, golf, traveling in our
motor home
After BHS: I attended USL one semester, and then I
transferred to Northwestern for one semester. At that
point, I decided to make my fortune. I quit college and
went to West Texas to work in the oil fields. I saved
enough money to buy a brand new Chevy Belair 2dr hardtop. I
then returned to USL for one semester--then off to the
Army. I took training at Ft Smith, Ark and was transferred
to San Fernando Valley (Van Nuys, Calif) working in radar
and guided
missiles. The duty was great, one day on and one day off.
In my off time, when I wasn’t attending UCLA, I worked at
part time jobs for extra money. I went to work for Roy
Rodgers at his skeet range. There I got to meet many stars
(Wm. Holden, Gabby Hayes, Bing and Bob Crosby, Clark Gable
and many more) I once attended the academy awards (two
tickets given to me by Clark Gable). Upon discharge I
returned to Lafayette and USL.
In 1962 started Lafayette Bureau Credit
Control, a credit reporting and collection agency, with $300
borrowed from mother's postal saving bonds. In 1969 I
formed another business: Coin & Treasure Co. This I sold
in1981. I retired from LBCC 1997 and turned it over to my
son.
Memories BHS: Many wonderful
memories of friends and times shared, but the most cherished
memory was when I was in the 4th grade and was stricken with
malaria and rheumatic fever. I was confined to bed for 3/4
of the school year. Upon returning to school, I was so far
behind I thought I would never be able to catch up. But,
Mrs. Haas took the time to work with me before school,
recess, at lunchtime, and after school every remaining day.
As a result I passed to the 5th grade with my classmates.
What a wonderful, caring person she was.
Accomplishments of which I am proud:
My children, college, and starting two businesses from
scratch and reaching retirement.
