Career: I left Bunkie and went to the Slidell area
because I had some relatives and friends there and there
were some opportunities there. My entire career has been
working for a corrugated box factory. I did various jobs
and was promoted to be a foreman. I am now completely
retired.
Spouse: Betty J. Deshotel. We
met in Bunkie. A friend of mine introduced her to me. We
got married within 4 months of my moving to Slidell. We
have been fortunate to have Betty as a full time homemaker.
She has not had to work outside of the home
Personal Interests: Fishing and
hunting.
Children 1, Grandchildren 1,
Great Grandchildren 2
Major events since BHS: I got
married and still enjoy it.
Accomplishments: I helped
friends work on their cars, and learned a lot from doing
so. It got to the point where I really liked car repairs.
I have learned to work on my own cars. I have also built a
large shed in my back yard.
Recollections of BHS: We had
very good teachers, and very good students. I went to
school when Mr. Massey was Principal. He was the best
Principal I ever had.
I enjoyed working at the movies
for 4 years in Bunkie. This is where I met a lot of good
people from Evergreen, Cottonport, Hessmer, etc.
Summary of the last fifty years:
We travel a lot, primarily in the summers with my wife and
the children. Almost all of our travel was along the East
Coast. Now I enjoy hunting and fishing. I also enjoy going
to baseball and football to see one of my great grandsons
play.
I am still in good health, and
hope that continues so that I can enjoy my leisure
activities, and see my great grandson’s baseball career
grow. I am very proud of him, and I believe he is very
good.
Hopes for the future: I hope to
live long enough to see my great grandson become a
professional baseball player. He is a very versatile
player. He is primarily a pitcher and a shortstop. His
plans are to go to college and further his baseball career.
