Career: I’ve been a librarian
all of my life, thirty-eight years at Pineville High
School. I was Technical Processes Director for Norton
Library, Louisiana College for 2 ½,years, adjunct professor
LSU Graduate School of Library and Information Science for 3
years.
Education: BS Northwestern,
1958; MS LSU, 1960; PhD Indiana U., 1979
Professional Achievements:
Automated the first high school library in this area, and
had fun showing off to the Japanese Trade Commission.
Personal Interests: History,
travel, reading, gardening (flowers - not food)
Spouse: Col. Tom R. Edwards (LTC
US Army ret’d). We met when he came to my school as
(recently divorced) Senior Army Instructor of our JROTC
program
Parents: Ollie L. and Ruth W.
Hyde. My father was Cleco District Manager and my mother
was a teacher in local elementary schools in Bunkie and
Pineville
Personal Information:
Children: 1 daughter and 3
stepchildren, 1 grandchild. Like myself, my lovely
daughter was a teacher and is now confined to a nursing
home, a Huntington’s Disease victim. I parent her son.
Leisure Activities: I take
great pleasure in attending my grandson’s band events,
tennis events, church events etc. I also run a tiny tree
farm; mow miles of grass; raise collies.
After my sophomore year at BHS I
transferred to Pineville High School, where I graduated as
Valedictorian. After wonderful college years I married Ryan
Chaudoir. We had our wonderful daughter, Annette. Ryan
worked hard (he taught and coached) and played hard. He
later died of HD. Annette and I have had a good life, with
lots of good friends. But when I found Tom, life got even
better.
Accomplishments of Which You Are
Proud: My child; her child- all of the young people
God allowed me to touch educationally. I am proudest of
connecting young people to learning.
Recollections of BHS: A jukebox
in the school. Band trips. Walking home after games.,
Feeling safe anywhere.
My last fifty years revolved
around schools, teaching, parenting, grand parenting. I
love schools, especially my Pineville High Magnet School for
Fine and Performing Arts where I was a charter member.
Thirty-eight years later I went home to care for sick
family. I still consult and am involved with band and
tennis. I parent for the love of my life, grandson Ryan-a
junior at PHS.
Tom and I celebrated our 22nd
anniversary last November. My daughter brightens lives at
the Hilltop Nursing Home in Pineville. Tom’s children live
in Texas.
Changes: Send Ryan to college
and relax. I’ve had fun, and expect to have more.
Hopes
for the Future: A cure for HD (Huntington’s Disease).
