Graduated from S.L.I., Lafayette
My first marriage was to Jack Oubre.
We were married 28 years. We have four beautiful
daughters. Their names are Jody, Sonya, Sherry, and
Jacquelyn. Between pregnancies I taught school.
Spouse: Roy Roberts. In 1987
we met at a dance, dated for a year, and married in 1988.
Roy's career was selling cotton gin equipment. He built
cotton gins in the United States and foreign countries, and
owned a cotton gin in West Texas.
Professional achievements: In
1978 I began my own business, a pawnshop in Victoria,
Texas. Not only did I make a living, but also it is
rewarding knowing that you can help and serve others.
Parents: Bertha and Travis
Boone. Father’s career interest: Supervisor at Columbia
Carbon Co.
Personal interest: The welfare
of family and friends. Maintaining a healthy and fit body
and mind. Striving to be a better person.
Personal information:
Children 4, grandchildren 10, great
grandchildren 6. I have 3 grandchildren in college.
Leisure activities: reading, playing
bridge, gardening, genealogy, and we are still dancing.
I continue to work managing the two
shops I own.
Major events in my life after BHS
are: graduating from SLI, having and raising my
daughters, and moving to Texas. Also, marrying Roy,
reaching a point of having satisfaction in my work and
having a life filled with love and contentment.
Accomplishments: I raised four
beautiful daughters, who are loving and wonderful. We are a
very close family.
Recollections of BHS: I recall
good times with friends, football, and booster club, and
Mrs. Hatley's math class.
Summary of last fifty years: I
graduated from SLI. I taught school in Lafayette, Houma, and
Franklin. My teaching career did not last long because of
having children. In 1965 I moved to Dickinson, Texas, where
Jack had a golf pro position. In 1968 I moved to San
Antonio, Texas, and I worked in the pro shop at Kelly Air
Force Base. In 1970 I moved to Victoria, Texas and worked
in the pro shop at Riverside Golf Course. In 1978 I opened
a pawnshop in Victoria and I am still working there. In
1986 Jack and I divorced.
In 1987 I met Roy. We dated for a
year, and married in 1988. Since Roy is a pilot and has a
plane, we have flown throughout the United States, a few
places in Canada and Mexico. Roy is retired from the cotton
gin business, and does all the honey do's. I am still
working in the pawn shop and don't see retiring in the near
future
All four daughters are happily married.
Hopes for the future: For Roy
and I to continue in good health, and to enjoy my
grandchildren's children. I pray for world peace.
Pertinent information: I am a
Baptist and I have taught bible study and have served on
several church committees.
The last
few years I have been involved with genealogy and have
documented my ancestors back to the American Revolution. I
am now a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
My parents instilled in us (10 children) family and moral
values; love, respect, and forgiveness. I tried to instill
the same values in my own children.
