Career: Went into farming in 1957; did military duty
1959, returned to farming with my father and brothers.
Through the years we have raised rice, cotton, beans and
sugarcane. At the present time our only crop is rice.
Currently I am semi-retired and I have left the operation of
the business to my son-in-law.
Spouse: Jo Ann Reed – we met in
the spring of 1957 at a school activity. We were wed the
following November. She is a retired schoolteacher from St
Anthony’s in Bunkie. She is an avid gardener. She also
loves traveling, reading, community service and bridge.
Leisure interests: I like to
read and do some traveling. I still enjoy fishing, hunting,
music, and my newest hobby, cooking. I also take a strong
interest in LSU sports.
Children 2, Grandchildren 1 –
Both of our children graduated from LSU. Our son is in
finance in Baton Rouge, and our daughter teaches in Ville
Platte. Children are delightful, but grandchildren are
grander!! You should meet Sarah, my granddaughter!!
Major events since BHS: My
marriage, the birth of our children, military service, The
birth of my granddaughter.
Accomplishments: Working with
my father to build and maintain our family farm and handing
it on to our children.
Recollections of BHS: The
principal and faculty who were just super. The characters,
the ballgames and especially Halloween.
Hopes for the future: That I
can continue to take care of my 90 year old mother who still
lives in her own home here inVille Platte. We want to
continue sharing our children’s lives and be part of Sarah’s
future.
We are not planning changes.
About five years ago we moved from a house on the farm to
the city. We are enjoying our new home, our great neighbors
and friends. It also is more convenient for us in taking
care of my mother.
We are blessed.
