Educational Milestones: Three years college, two
years of which were at LSU. These years were spent
primarily studying English and Spanish. This period was
followed by my studying medical records operations. Some of
this work was done through extension courses.
Work History: The only time I
have worked outside of the home was the three years I spent
managing the medical records department at Bunkie General
Hospital. Later on, I did do substitute teaching, but that
did not last for very long.
Leisure interests: I love
bridge and gardening, especially growing flowers. I am
still looking for a bridge group since moving to Florida,
but no luck so far.
Spouse: Loring Jones – we met
through our church when I lived in Mobile. Our minister
encouraged Loring to participate in some activities I was
involved in. We came to realize that we had a great deal in
common. We got acquainted through the Church and got
married some time later in 1998. He is a retired commercial
airline pilot. He has his projects. He loves working on
the house. In fact, he is adding a room to our house now.
He was a golfer, and that generated an interest on my part.
I really became active, playing three times a week. Both of
us gave up the game about eight years ago. In my case, it
took up too much of my time. In his case, I think he gave
up the game, because his youngest son beat him.
I have four children:
1. Joel - born in 1957, who
currently lives outside of Ville Platte.
2. James - born in 1958 is
currently working on an offshore oil rig.
3. George – born in 1963, lives
outside of Hessmer. He is married and has two children
4. Jeane – born in 1966, lives in Baton Rouge. She
has a master's degree in education and teaches full-time .
She has three children.
Loring also has four children.
My experiences at BHS: My
experiences were somewhat unique. My father moved the
family to Mexico, but after a few months, I realized that I
wanted to be in Bunkie. So at the age of 12 I went back to
Bunkie to live with my grandfather. This is what I
preferred, but at the same time, my grandfather traveled
about half the time. So I grew up without having a father
figure around.
Bunkie High School in the fifties:
I developed the name for the yearbook, of which I'm very
proud. I also thoroughly enjoyed being a class officer. I
very much enjoyed those years. They were years with good
friends and good experiences. The teachers were wonderful
and caring, which left an impression on me.
The 50 years since graduating from BHS
have been very good for me. I was also kept very active as
a wife and mother, because of those responsibilities. They
also left me with much to value and cherish. But I also
managed to be an active volunteer, holding many officer
positions in these organizations.
We recently moved from Baton Rouge to
Florida, as you can see from the address above. We were very
fortunate with the last string of hurricanes, since our home
lost only half of its roof. Considering the damage around
us, we consider ourselves very fortunate. At the same time,
it is very depressing to go around our community and see the
destruction that was left behind by the storm. The pace of
cleanup and rebuilding is distressingly slow.
We do not plan any future changes. Our
move to Florida was enough for me for a while. We are far
from being settled in, that will take a while. But we look
forward to enjoying the area. We live about five minutes
from the beach, and we go there frequently. We also hope to
continue keeping in touch with our friends in Bunkie and my
classmates scattered across the U.S. We have gone to the
Corn Festival in the last few years. Living in Florida may
make that more difficult, but we plan to do whatever we can
to stay in touch
