Career history: U.S. Army, 1959-1961; Arkansas
Power & Light 1963-2001 – where I worked as a pilot for 38
years.
I am now retired.
Spouse: Clara Murray – We met
at a dinner party.
Personal information: We have
four children and five grandchildren, three boys and two
girls. Personal Interests: Travel & playing golf
Parents: Nina & Raymond. My
mother was an RN, worked on special duty cases in Lecompte
and Cheneyville. My father was from Cheneyville and had a
trucking business.
Recollections of Bunkie High School:
Great classmates and a great school.
We have no big plans for the
future. Clara is still very busy working. After she
retires things may change somewhat.
A fifty year summary: After
Bunkie High School, I entered LSU and completed two years,
after which I went to work for Louisiana Aircraft in Baton
Rouge. Two years later I was drafted into the Army. I
married my first wife just before being drafted and we lived
in Alexandria Va. We returned to Baton Rouge and met an
old friend and we all moved to Jackson, MS. to start an
Aircraft Electronic Shop. After about two years my friend
started working for an oil company offshore. In 1963 I
moved to Little Rock and started flying for Arkansas Power
and Light Co. I flew for them for 34 years and received
early retirement, which gave me 5 more years. I did not fly
after age 60, and at age 65 I was fully retired. After
flying in three foreign countries and all 48 states I have a
lot of miles. I also discovered that at 45,000 feet you
could see the earth’s curvature.
In 1965 I was divorced and a year later
had to take custody of my three children. This worked out
well. Now my oldest son has two girls and lives in Dallas.
They just bought a new house. My daughter who is the middle
child adopted two boys and lives in North Little Rock. My
youngest son lives in Dallas and has a successful label
printing business. He has one boy.
I married Clara in 1988 and we live in
Little Rock. Clara has two children from an earlier
marriage, a boy and a girl. Her daughter was murdered in
1986 and the son lives in Fayetteville, AR. He has a home
and does very well. Clara has been in farming most of her
life and now works for Rural Community Insurance Services,
which is the largest crop insurance company in the US. She
is the Area Claims Representative for all of AR., the
western half of TN., and the boot hills of MO, supervising
34 adjusters. We do a lot of traveling in this area.
My life hasn’t been very exciting, and
has had its ups and downs. After all these years of flying
my biggest problem is losing my hearing.
If God is willing and the creeks don’t
rise I’ll see everybody in ten years at the next reunion.
